First 40 stalls tendered as part of major seafront revival

The traditional crafts market is making a long-awaited comeback to Torrevieja’s harbour front. The City Council has now put out to tender the first 40 stalls of the future artisanal market, marking an important step in the revitalisation of the port area.

A long-awaited return

For many years, visitors and locals have missed the colourful and lively atmosphere of the traditional crafts market along Torrevieja’s seafront. With the ongoing transformation of the port area, including the new Paseo del Mar, the City Council is now taking concrete steps to bring the artisans back in a modern and well-organised way.

Significant investment

The project has a budget of €1,313,143 including VAT. Each stall costs approximately €22,000. The tender covers the supply and installation of the first 40 units, with the possibility of increasing to 48 in this initial phase. The stalls will be placed in the Customs House area and along Paseo La Libertad once the urbanisation works are completed.

Quality and authenticity guaranteed

At the same time, the Council is preparing a new ordinance that will regulate the market. One of the most important requirements will be that sellers must hold the official “Documento de Calificación Artesana” (DCA) issued by the Valencian Government. This ensures that only genuine handmade products are sold, protecting both customers and honest artisans.

Step by step revival

The plan is to implement the market gradually. As demand from qualified artisans grows, more stalls will be added up to the total of 166 planned. This phased approach allows the project to adapt to real needs while maintaining high standards.

The new market is part of a larger vision to make the port area an attractive destination that combines tourism, commerce, culture and leisure. By bringing back traditional crafts in modern, uniform stalls, Torrevieja aims to strengthen its identity as a vibrant coastal city.
