20 new agents and 10 motorcycles to improve traffic flow and safety

The Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja has officially launched a new specialised unit called Agentes de Movilidad. The 20 agents and their supervisor took up their positions on Friday 10 July and will begin active service next week after completing their training.

What will the new Mobility Agents do?

The new unit will take over many of the day-to-day traffic tasks that previously took up a lot of time for the Policía Local. Their main responsibilities include:

• Regulating traffic at school entrances and exits
• Managing traffic in the city centre and at major events
• Controlling bus lanes, parking areas and loading zones
• Protecting spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility
• Supporting the organisation of processions, sports events and large public gatherings

They are not police officers

It is important to note that the Agentes de Movilidad are **not** part of the police force. They do not have powers to make arrests or write official police reports. Their role is strictly limited to traffic regulation and mobility management. They can only issue fines for traffic violations within their specific area of responsibility.

This clear division of tasks allows the regular Policía Local to dedicate more resources to actual security work and administrative policing, while the new unit specialises in keeping traffic moving smoothly.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón welcomed the new agents and emphasised that their work will be key to making Torrevieja “a safer, better organised city with more efficient mobility”. He added that the new unit will directly improve quality of life for both residents and the many visitors who come to the city throughout the year.

Practical details

For now, the unit is temporarily based at the Policía Local facilities in Los Balcones. By the end of the year they are expected to move into new dedicated premises next to the main police headquarters.

The service contract runs for one year with the possibility of three annual extensions, giving the city flexibility to evaluate and continue the project.
