Every July, Torrevieja honours its deep connection to the sea with the beloved Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen. This year’s celebrations combine religious devotion, local traditions and family-friendly activities, culminating in one of the most emotional events on the Costa Blanca calendar.

The festivities began on 4 July with children’s entertainment and a solidarity meal for local organisations. On 11 July, a special mass in memory of deceased fishermen will be held at the Church of the Sacred Heart, followed by a floral offering and the emotional singing of the Salve Marinera at the Monument to the Man of the Sea.
On 15 July, the traditional Paella Contest at the Lonja del Pescado will bring together locals and visitors, accompanied by live music. The big day is Thursday 16 July, which starts with a lively Diana Musical wake-up call through the streets.

The day’s main events include the popular Cucaña Marítima in the harbour, a solemn mass at the Church of the Inmaculada Concepción, and the highlight: the impressive land and sea procession of the Virgen del Carmen.
The image of the Virgin will be carried through the streets to the harbour, where it will be placed on a boat for a beautiful maritime procession. After returning to land, the day ends with a spectacular fireworks display – a magical moment that always draws large crowds to the waterfront.
