Authorities reinforce emergency services and shelter 23 homeless residents ahead of severe weather.
Torrevieja’s CECOPAL (Municipal Operational Coordination Center) held a new meeting this morning, Friday, October 10, chaired by Mayor Eduardo Dolón. The center will remain open and fully active throughout the day as heavy rainfall is expected to intensify from midday.
According to Proyecto Mastral, the heaviest episodes could reach up to 180 litres per square metre in 12 hours or 60 litres in one hour, though rainfall overnight remained moderate, mainly in Los Balcones and La Mata. The Local Police reported no flooding incidents so far within the municipality.
Red Cross and Civil Protection confirmed that 23 homeless individuals (16 men and 7 women) were relocated last night to the Tavi y Carmona Sports Pavilion, where they are being assisted by volunteers from Alimentos Solidarios. Shelter capacity has been increased to 40 places as a precaution.
Fire services have added extra units in Torrevieja and reinforced teams across southern Alicante, Elche, and the Vega Baja area, deploying boats and rescue equipment. The municipal cleaning and beaches contractor, ACCIONA, has heavy vehicles and cranes on standby to handle potential debris or vehicle recovery operations.
Mayor Dolón praised residents for their cooperation and responsibility in following safety recommendations, adding that all municipal services — including parks, street cleaning, lighting, and AGAMED water management — remain on alert to respond quickly to any incidents.
