Eras de la Sal Set for Major Transformation

New museum, restored historic buildings and better connection to the sea

It’s exciting news for Torrevieja. The local government has just approved the detailed project that will breathe new life into one of the town’s most historic and symbolic areas: Eras de la Sal.

Eras de la Sal Torrevieja
Eras de la Sal – a historic site about to be transformed

Key information

  • Total investment: Over €15.4 million
  • New Museum of the Sea and Salt
  • Restoration of the historic Administration House and Caballete
  • Expected construction time: around 20 months
  • Will create a new cultural and public space by the sea

A historic area gets a new future

The project includes the construction of the new Museo del Mar y de la Sal, restoration of the protected Administration House (Casa de Administración), and the historic Caballete structure. The goal is to transform the entire area into a modern, accessible and attractive cultural space that connects the museum, the salt flats, the promenade and the sea.

More than just a museum

This is one of the most important urban and heritage projects in Torrevieja in recent decades. With over €15.4 million, the town is investing in preserving its salt history while creating new public spaces for both residents and visitors to enjoy.

The project is partly funded by the European Union through the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and will run in parallel with the construction of the new Auditorio de las Habaneras.

Something to look forward to

For many who live here, Eras de la Sal is not just an old industrial site — it’s part of the town’s soul and identity. Seeing it finally being restored and opened to the public feels like a meaningful step forward.

We will follow the project closely and keep you updated as construction begins and the area gradually transforms into a new landmark for Torrevieja.
