Strong growth in Scandinavian and Northern European travellers
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport recorded its busiest May ever in 2026. The airport handled 1.48 million passengers in May, representing an increase of 12.8% compared to May 2025.

Strong Scandinavian interest
The increase is largely driven by Northern European travellers. Airlines have added more flights from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Scandinavian passengers alone increased by approximately 18% compared to the same period last year.
Positive outlook for summer 2026
The airport is currently on track to surpass 18 million passengers for the full year 2026. The summer season is expected to be one of the strongest in recent years.
Boost for Costa Blanca
The record passenger numbers are excellent news for the entire Costa Blanca region. Tourism-dependent businesses in Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Altea, Calpe, Benidorm and surrounding areas are preparing for a busy and profitable summer season.
