New day care center for Alzheimer’s patients moves forward

City awards €204K contract to draft plans for modern care facility

The city council has awarded the contract to design Torrevieja’s future day care center for people with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. The winning bid, submitted by architect Francisco M. Juárez Pozuelo, scored the highest among 13 proposals and was chosen with a 32% price reduction from the initial €299,749 tender, bringing the final contract to €204,354 (VAT included). The company will have six months to complete the basic and execution plans, as well as health, safety and waste management plans.

Once the final administrative steps and potential appeals are resolved in early October, the full project will be presented to the public. The center — to be built in Sector 25 on a 7,900 m² plot with 2,700 m² of facilities — will have an estimated construction budget of €5.5 million. It is designed to provide modern, accessible and safe care for patients while offering vital support to families and caregivers.

Councillor for NGOs and Volunteering Trudy Páez said the project fulfills a long-standing social demand and strengthens the city’s social care network. Mayor Eduardo Dolón also met with the Alzheimer’s Association of Torrevieja (AFA Torrevieja) to share the news, coinciding with the activities marking World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21.
