Green light for final stage of port redevelopment

City council approves nearly €4M plan to complete works by summer 2026

The Local Government Board has approved the final subproject to complete the redevelopment of the port area, connecting the city with the waterfront from Acequión to the Dique de Levante. Councillor and board secretary Federico Alarcón confirmed that this is the last major step in the long-running urbanisation plan for the port, with only the installation of the small market huts (“casetas de los Hippies”) still pending separate tender.

The newly approved works have a budget of €3,929,401 and are expected to last about eight months, meaning completion could arrive by early summer 2026. The tender will also reward contractors who shorten the construction timeline.

The project covers the final finishing of the promenade and access from the Hombre del Mar monument to the Dique de Levante and the elevated walkway to the leisure centre. It will integrate urban furniture, lighting, landscaping and decorative features, combining with earlier approved works such as port electrification, quay reinforcement, the Dique de Levante upgrades and the new cantilevered walkway.
