Torrevieja invests over €1.2M in a 4,100 m² green space designed for rainwater management, sports, and leisure.
Mayor Eduardo Dolón has unveiled plans for a new multifunctional floodable park in the Aguas Nuevas neighborhood of Torrevieja. Joined by city officials and AGAMED representatives, the project aims to create an urban green space while improving sustainable rainwater management.
The development, covering over 4,100 m², will be executed in two phases. The first, starting this September with a budget exceeding €1.2 million, is expected to take nine months. A future second phase will add more green areas, children’s playgrounds, calisthenics zones, and fitness equipment.
Designed to retain up to 2,000 m³ of rainwater, the park will feature interconnected retention areas, permeable pathways, and sustainable urban drainage solutions. Sports and leisure facilities include a skatepark and a concrete bowl for skating, integrated into the drainage system.
The landscaping will preserve 43 existing trees and introduce 10 new ones, along with 2,100 shrubs and aromatic plants such as rosemary, lavender, and thyme. Additionally, an 80-meter green sound barrier and 250 m² of permeable meadows will enhance biodiversity. According to city officials, this project reinforces Torrevieja’s commitment to sustainability and improved urban living.
