UNED launches first emergency Spanish learning book for Ukrainian residents
The first Spanish learning manual for Ukrainian residents in Spain will be presented on Wednesday, May 21, at 19:30 in Torrevieja’s Palacio de la Música, promoted by UNED Torrevieja.
The event will feature local authorities, including Deputy Mayor Rosario Martínez, Education Councillor Ricardo Recuero, and International Residents Councillor Gitte Lund, alongside UNED Elche director Francisco Escudero. The presentation will include a musical gala with Ukrainian and Spanish songs, speeches from institutions and associations, and an overview of the method – dialogues, cultural notes, grammar explanations, and a double lexicon with over 500 full-color illustrations.
Developed by professor Juan Antonio Cebrián and coordinated by philology doctor Jesucristo Riquelme, the book is designed for Ukrainians living in Spain, particularly in Torrevieja, home to the country’s largest Ukrainian community. Supported by Ukrainian speakers and philologists, it offers a bilingual, practical approach to integrating into Spanish society.
The launch edition is limited, with plans for an expanded version next academic year. If supported by authorities, a co-edition with Micomicona publishing may extend distribution across Spain. Entry to the event is free with an invitation available at the venue until the day of the event, writes El País.
