New Law on Foreigners: Information Sessions Begin in Torrevieja

City officials explain the changes affecting residence permits and integration reports under the new immigration law.

The Department of Coexistence and Integration in Torrevieja has launched a series of information sessions to explain updates to Spain’s immigration law, particularly changes affecting the “arraigo” residence procedures. The sessions are held through the municipal PANGEA office, which supports migrants in the area.

The first session took place at the Multi-Use Center on Avenida de las Habaneras, targeting students learning Spanish for the purpose of applying for “arraigo.” The event also introduced María del Rocío Raffaeli Serrano as a new intercultural mediator at PANGEA. Local officials, including Councillor Óscar Urtasun, Councillor for International Residents Gitte Lund, and PANGEA technician Jean Paul Mulero, attended the session.

The new immigration law came into force on May 20, 2025, under Royal Decree 1155/2024. It introduces five types of “arraigo”: family-based, social, socio-laboral, second-chance, and training-based.

Councillor Urtasun emphasized that individuals, associations, or groups interested in attending future sessions can email pangea@torrevieja.eu to receive information about upcoming dates and locations.
