A total investment of €6.46 million will transform the area into a modern tourism and cultural hub in Torrevieja
Restoration work on Torrevieja’s iconic Ice Factory began on Tuesday, July 22, with the demolition of the historic “Grupo de Empresas de las Salinas” building. This marks the first step in the regeneration of the area around the Eras de la Sal and the Sea and Salt Museum.
In the coming days, the area will be cleared, fenced off, and prepared for construction, including the installation of modular site offices and storage. All work is being supervised by an archaeological team appointed by the City Council, following guidelines from the Valencian Cultural Heritage authorities.
Mayor Eduardo Dolón confirmed that the next phase will involve construction of the annex building next to the Ice Factory. This will proceed without affecting traffic flow on the city’s main access road.
The new facility will house a completely renovated Tourist Office and a visitor reception point for the Sea and Salt Museum. The annex building will accommodate the Department of Tourism, including a new Tourism Innovation and Management Centre. It may also include other municipal services such as the Office for International Residents (OARI), the Office for Migrant Support (PANGEA), and museum administration offices.
The project has a total budget of €6,458,853 (including VAT) and a timeline of 18 months. The Valencian government has allocated €100,000 for the restoration in 2025, with a further €2 million expected over 2026 and 2027.
