Recruitment process expanded to strengthen the municipal force and improve stability
The Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja is significantly expanding its Local Police recruitment drive. The Mesa de Funcionarios has approved an increase to a total of 63 places for police officers, making this one of the most ambitious selection processes the municipality has launched in recent years.

A major step for local security
The expansion was announced by the councillor for Personnel and Internal Regime, María José Ruiz, after approval by the Mesa de Funcionarios. The extra places combine the public employment offers from 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, creating a larger and more stable force.
Of the 63 positions, 45 will be filled through the free turn (open competition) and 18 through the mobility turn. The process is already in its final stretch. Candidates have completed the last practical examination and now face the medical checks before being appointed as trainee civil servants.
Towards a stronger force in 2027
The Town Hall’s clear objective is that Torrevieja begins 2027 with a Local Police force of approximately 180 agents. This reinforcement of the basic scale will be complemented by parallel selection processes for higher ranks. Around 30 positions for Oficial, Inspector, Intendente and Comisario are currently underway, ensuring a solid and effective command structure.
For residents and visitors on the Costa Blanca this is positive news. A larger and more stable police force should translate into better coverage, faster response times and greater capacity to handle the needs of a growing and highly visited coastal city.
Recognising the daily work of officers
The councillor highlighted the daily effort of the current Local Police officers, who work continuously to protect the safety and well-being of both neighbours and the many tourists who come to Torrevieja throughout the year. The expanded recruitment is intended to give the force the human resources it needs to deliver the best possible service.
Looking ahead, the Town Hall is already preparing further increases in the coming years. Collaboration between the Personnel and Police departments continues with the aim of modernising and expanding the force step by step.

Torrevieja, like many coastal towns, experiences strong seasonal population growth and high visitor numbers. Strengthening the Local Police is therefore not only about numbers, but about ensuring that the city remains safe, well-organised and welcoming.
