From 28 November to 4 December 2025 under the motto #SUPERCAPACES
Torrevieja has officially presented its programme for the International Week of Persons with Disabilities 2025, which will take place from 28 November to 4 December. The initiative, once again under the powerful slogan #SUPERCAPACES (“SuperCapable”), seeks not only to mark 3 December – the International Day of Persons with Disabilities proclaimed by the United Nations – but to create a whole week of awareness, dialogue and celebration of diversity.

The presentation took place on 26 November 2025 and was led by the Councillor for NGOs and Citizen Participation, Trudy Páez, together with representatives of the six main local associations: ALPE, APANEE, AMFA, ASIMEPP, AFA and ADIEM. These organisations have worked hand-in-hand with the Town Hall to design a programme that combines education, culture, sport and citizen participation.
“We want Torrevieja to move towards a more accessible, egalitarian and conscious city model. This week is not just a commemoration – it is a commitment.”
The highlight: Gala de la Discapacidad with Jesús Vidal and Vicente del Bosque
The grand finale will be the Gala de la Discapacidad 2025 on Thursday 4 December at 20:00 in the Teatro Municipal. The star guest will be Jesús Vidal, the Spanish actor with visual impairment who won the Goya Award for Best New Actor in 2019 for his role in the film Campeones. Vidal, who is also a philologist, writer and speaker, will share his personal story of overcoming obstacles.
In addition, former Spanish national football coach and champion of the world Vicente del Bosque – a long-time advocate for inclusive sport – will intervene live. The gala will pay tribute to families, associations and, above all, people with disabilities themselves.

Free tickets will be available from Friday 28 November at the theatre box office and online at culturatorrevieja.com.

A historic step: the first Consejo de la Diversidad Funcional
One of the most significant milestones of this year’s week will be the inaugural session of the Consejo de la Diversidad Funcional on 2 December. Approved by the full municipal council on 30 June 2025, this is not a symbolic body but a real participatory organ where associations and citizens can propose, debate and influence municipal policies on accessibility and inclusion.
Why #SUPERCAPACES matters in Torrevieja
Torrevieja, with its large expatriate and tourist population, has become one of the most cosmopolitan municipalities on the Costa Blanca. Making the city truly accessible and inclusive is not just a moral obligation but also a competitive advantage. From adapted beaches and accessible promenades to an increasing number of inclusive sports and cultural activities, the town has made important progress in recent years – and this week is the visible proof that the work continues.
By bringing high-profile figures such as Jesús Vidal and Vicente del Bosque to the town, Torrevieja is sending a clear message: people with disabilities are not only capable – they are super capable, and society is richer because of their contribution.
The 2025 programme once again demonstrates that inclusion is built day by day, with dialogue, education and celebration. Mark your calendars – Torrevieja is ready to show the world what #SUPERCAPACES really means.
