A beloved local tradition
The Fiesta de la Sardina has become one of the most anticipated events at the beginning of summer in La Mata. Organised by the Torrevieja Town Hall in collaboration with the local hospitality association, the Fishermen’s Guild and the Cofradía de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the day offers a perfect mix of gastronomy, music and community spirit.
What to expect
From 12:00, the square will be transformed into a big open-air party. Attendees can enjoy free grilled sardines, fresh bread and cold beer while supplies last. A DJ will provide music throughout the day, and a foam cannon will keep things fun and refreshing – especially popular with children and young people. There will also be a raffle with several hams as prizes.
A great way to enjoy La Mata
La Mata’s sardine festival is more than just food – it’s a celebration of local traditions, the sea and community. It’s a relaxed and welcoming event where both long-time residents and newcomers can meet, enjoy good food and experience the friendly atmosphere that makes this part of the Costa Blanca so special.
If you’re in the area this weekend, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience authentic local culture. Bring your friends and family and get ready for a fun, tasty and very Spanish afternoon by the sea.
The event is open to everyone and completely free. Just show up, enjoy the atmosphere and perhaps win a ham!
