Torrevieja Activates CECOPAL Amid Orange Rain Alert

The city mobilizes all municipal and emergency services to ensure rapid response during severe weather.

Torrevieja City Council has officially activated the Municipal Operational Coordination Center (CECOPAL) in response to the orange alert for heavy rainfall issued by Spain’s national weather agency (AEMET).

The meeting, chaired by Mayor Eduardo Dolón, brought together councillor for Security and Emergencies Federico Alarcón, along with representatives from Health, Education, Sports, Public Works, and Urban Planning, as well as the Local Police, Civil Guard, Fire Brigade, Civil Protection, AGAMED, ambulance services, hospitals, and the Proyecto Mastral weather group. The goal: to coordinate actions and ensure swift, effective, and safe response to any incidents.

AEMET forecasts up to 100 litres of rain per square metre in 12 hours, with localized storms, wind gusts, and possible hail between October 8 and 13. The most critical period is expected from late Thursday into Saturday night.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay clear of flood-prone areas, secure outdoor objects, and keep drains clear. Municipal and emergency services remain on full alert and will update forecasts three times daily.

All municipal and sports activities continue as planned unless otherwise announced. Public parks will stay open but may close temporarily if strong winds develop.

If weather conditions permit, the official ceremony for Valencia Day will be held Thursday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. in Plaza de la Constitución, with a flag-raising ceremony and musical performance by Unión Musical Torrevejense. Should rain persist, the event will move indoors to the Teatro Municipal.
