A tribute to the late local athlete, offering new space for gymnastics, climbing, and martial arts
The new “María Jesús Viuda” multi-sports hall has been inaugurated in Torrevieja’s Ciudad Deportiva, next to the Cecilio Gallego pavilion. Mayor Eduardo Dolón, members of the city council, and the family of María Jesús Viuda Albacete attended the emotional ceremony in memory of the young Torrevejense, who passed away in 2022 and was part of the local Sports Department.
After the ribbon-cutting, visitors toured the facilities and watched the first training sessions taking place. The modern space includes areas for rhythmic gymnastics (with four mats), climbing, martial arts, fitness classes, and a psychomotor room for children. It also features changing rooms, restrooms, and strategically placed security cameras connected with the Cecilio Gallego pavilion.
The mayor expressed satisfaction at opening this long-awaited facility, which cost nearly €1.4 million (including VAT) and was built by UTE González Soto S.A. and Montajes Eléctricos Llamas S.L. The hot water system uses electric heaters, in compliance with current regulations, writes Información.
