Sister cities strengthen ties with cultural exchange and symbolic gifts
Torrevieja and Oviedo have reaffirmed their sister-city relationship as Torrevieja’s Salty Court visited the Asturian capital during the San Mateo patron celebrations. Oviedo mayor Alfredo Canteli, joined by councillor Covadonga Díaz and San Mateo festival queens Alba Jiménez and Sidenka Ojeda, officially welcomed the delegation led by Torrevieja’s vice mayor and festivities councillor Rosario Martínez, along with the Queen of Salt, Nuria Martí, and her ladies-in-waiting Ana Vidal and Inés Martínez.
Canteli highlighted the long-standing friendship and cultural ties between the two cities, recalling past visits to Torrevieja and praising the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest. Rosario Martínez emphasised the close relationship with Asturias and presented Canteli with local salt products and wine from La Mata, while the Torrevieja delegation received a special edition of the classic novel La Regenta, set in Oviedo’s literary counterpart Vetusta.
The visit also included a stop in Siero, further strengthening the cultural and institutional bonds between the sister cities.
