World Tourism Day brings tours, open museums and food events

City hosts guided visits, family activities and International Tapas Day from September 26–28

The Department of Tourism has announced a full programme to celebrate World Tourism Day 2025, offering cultural, eco-friendly and gastronomic activities for residents and visitors from September 26 to 28.

Friday kicks off with guided city centre tours in Spanish, English and French at 10:00 and 11:00, with sign-ups at the Tourist Office. Saturday offers a rich mix: a family theatre walk “The Salty Story of the Lagoons” at La Mata Natural Park (10:30–12:30), guided visits to the Natural History Museum (11:00 & 12:00), and educational talks on local beaches and wildlife from 9:30 to 13:00 on Calle Concepción. Museums will open for free from 10:00 to 13:00, including the floating Submarine S-61 and maritime patrol ships, while the Salt Industry will host discounted tours (€6). The popular International Tapas Day will also take place across the city’s bars and restaurants, organised by the local hospitality association.

On Sunday, September 28, the programme closes with the eco-tour “Vineyards and Salt” at La Mata Natural Park (10:00–13:30). Parallel to the events, the Instagram photo contest #TorreviejaDMT25 runs until September 26.

Tourism councillor Rosario Martínez said the initiative highlights sustainable, cultural and local tourism while showcasing the city’s natural and historic heritage.
