Municipal building in ruins to be replaced by a green public area with playground near Avenida Diego Ramírez Pastor
The City Council of Torrevieja has started the demolition of a municipally-owned building in a state of ruin, located at the junction of Calle Maldonado and its adjacent alley. The works are being carried out under a minor construction contract with a base budget of €40,996.92 and an expected completion time of two months.
According to Councillor for Municipal Assets, Domingo Paredes, the building posed a public safety risk and obstructed the street, creating serious traffic and urban planning issues. He emphasized the importance of reclaiming disused spaces and ensuring the area is safe and functional for both vehicles and pedestrians.
The property, acquired in December 2024, was in an advanced state of decay and encroached on public roads. Its removal will restore proper alignment, improve accessibility, and eliminate a potential danger zone.
Once the demolition is complete, the Parks and Gardens Department plans to transform the site into a public plaza with green areas. Councillor Concha Sala stated that the space will include vegetation and playgrounds, meeting the needs of this densely populated neighborhood near Avenida Diego Ramírez Pastor, which lacks family-friendly infrastructure.
