Historic train station to be restored with €511,476 budget under EU Recovery Plan
Torrevieja City Council has approved the tender for the rehabilitation works of the Salt Industry Interpretation Centre, with a budget of €511,476 (VAT included). The project, funded by the Next Generation EU Recovery Plan and the local Tourism Sustainability Plan, will restore the old train station building into a modern exhibition space.
The contract will be awarded through a negotiated procedure without publicity, after an earlier open tender failed. The works, designed by Rocamora Diseño y Arquitectura, will be completed within five months.
The revamped centre will showcase the history of Torrevieja’s salt industry, from early extraction methods to modern industrialisation. It will feature an immersive museographic project with illuminated signage, large exterior letters, and themed spaces combining local heritage with global salt production. Companies invited to bid include Excavaciones Geos, Oserpro 2000 and several others.
