Three magical Sunday morning performances designed to bring classical music to children and adults alike
Torrevieja’s cultural calendar received a major boost today as the renowned Casanovas Orquesta officially launched its highly anticipated Family Concerts 2026 series. The announcement took place this morning in the elegant Ambigú of the Teatro Municipal de Torrevieja, attended by Culture Councillor Antonio Quesada, orchestra director José F. Sánchez, representatives from Art Culture System Box, and the main sponsor MPC Group.
These popular Sunday midday concerts have become a firm favourite among both local Spanish families and the large international expat community on the southern Costa Blanca. They offer a relaxed, entertaining and educational introduction to live orchestral music – perfect for children who might find traditional evening concerts too formal or too late.
2026 Family Concerts – At a Glance

- 15 March 2026 – 12:00: Sonrisas y Lágrimas – The Sound of Music musical experience (with singer María Sabater)
- 10 May 2026 – 12:00: Un Conciertazo Para Todos
- Venue: Teatro Municipal de Torrevieja
- Tickets: On sale now at the theatre box office or online at culturatorrevieja.com

The series opens on 25 January with Música e Instrumentos del Mundo. Families will enjoy a guided tour of every section of the orchestra, discovering the unique character of each instrument through famous pieces such as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Well-known local actor Iván Gisbert will host the concert, making the experience both fun and informative.
The highlight for many will be the 15 March performance of Sonrisas y Lágrimas (“The Sound of Music”). Soprano María Sabater takes the lead in this orchestral retelling of the classic story, featuring all the unforgettable Rodgers & Hammerstein songs – from “Do-Re-Mi” to “Edelweiss” – in a format specially created for families.
Finally, on 10 May, Un Conciertazo Para Todos will close the season with a joyful journey through opera highlights, waltzes, marches and popular classics. The youngest members of the audience will even be invited on stage to conduct the orchestra or try simple percussion instruments – a magical moment that children talk about for years afterwards.
“These concerts are fundamental in creating new generations of music lovers. We want children to leave the theatre excited about what they’ve heard and eager to come back.”
– José F. Sánchez, Director of Casanovas Orquesta
The Casanovas Orquesta is currently in excellent shape, with more than 300 active members and prestigious honorary presidents including Zubin Mehta and Enrique García Asensio. Major sponsorship from MPC Group, together with the travelling exhibition “Una vida de película” (currently heading to Barcelona), underlines the orchestra’s growing national profile. 2026 will also mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Maestro Francisco Casanovas, and a special programme of commemorative events is being prepared.
For the thousands of British, Scandinavian, German, Dutch and other international families living between Alicante and Cartagena, these concerts are much more than just a pleasant Sunday morning out. They are an important part of community life on the Costa Blanca – a chance for grandparents to share their passion for music with grandchildren, and for Torrevieja to continue proving why it is one of the most culturally vibrant towns on the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
Tickets are already selling quickly (especially for The Sound of Music performance), so early booking is strongly recommended.
