€59,154 contract awarded to architect Francisco Miguel Juárez Pozuelo – 25m x 12.5m pool with spectator stands, family changing rooms and improved green areas coming in 2026

TORREVIEJA – On 14 November 2025, Torrevieja Local Government Board officially awarded the contract for the technical project and design of a new heated indoor swimming pool at the city’s main sports complex, Ciudad Deportiva. The successful bidder is architect Francisco Miguel Juárez Pozuelo, with a total budget of €59,154.48 (VAT included) and a six-month deadline for completion of the full project documentation.

The new facility will be located behind the Palacio de los Deportes “Tavi y Carmona” and opposite the Pabellón Cecilio Gallego, creating a direct underground link to the existing indoor pool and forming a fully integrated aquatic centre.

Key Details – New Torrevieja Heated Pool

  • Pool size: 25 m long × 12.5 m wide (5 lanes)
  • Building surface: Over 1,600 m² + basement
  • Facilities: Reception, spectator stands, male/female/family changing rooms, showers, direct link to existing pool
  • Project cost: €59,154.48 (IVA incl.)
  • Architect: Francisco Miguel Juárez Pozuelo
  • Project deadline: 6 months (expected completion May 2026)
  • Extra guarantees: 18-month extended warranty + 18 months additional technical assistance

“This second heated pool of 25 × 12.5 metres will be perfect for warm-up sessions, water activities and year-round training, significantly increasing the capacity of our sports complex.”

— Diana Box Alonso, Councillor for Sports

A Modern, Inclusive and Energy-Efficient Design

The new building, covering more than 1,600 m², will include:

  • Spacious reception hall with direct visual connection to the pool
  • Spectator stands
  • Three separate changing room blocks: male, female and mixed/family (ideal for parents with children of different genders)
  • “Bare-foot” circulation corridors to maintain hygiene
  • Natural light and ventilation on three sides
  • Ceiling height over 4 metres throughout the pool hall

Energy efficiency is a priority: the new pool will share the existing boiler room via an underground connection, reducing both construction and operating costs. The design also includes high-performance thermal systems to minimise energy consumption.

Greener and More Accessible Sports Complex

Outdoor areas will be completely reorganised to improve flow and aesthetics. Plans include new landscaped gardens, retained and reconfigured parking spaces, dedicated bicycle parking, and a gently sloping ramp alongside steps for fully accessible entrance.

The project marks another major investment in Torrevieja’s sporting infrastructure following recent upgrades to the athletics track, football pitches and the existing 50-metre indoor pool. Once completed (expected tender for construction in late 2026), the city will have two year-round heated pools – a huge boost for local swimming clubs, schools, rehabilitation programmes and residents who currently face limited winter training options.

With a growing population and increasing demand for indoor sports facilities on the southern Costa Blanca, this new pool is set to become a cornerstone of Torrevieja’s ambition to be the leading sports destination in the Vega Baja region.
