La Plasa building set for major €8.25M renovation

Project aims to revitalise city centre commerce with a modern market and flexible public spaces

The city council has awarded the €8.25 million contract to renovate the La Plasa building to Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios S.A.U., marking a key step in transforming the site into a vibrant hub for local trade and community life. The company has committed to cutting up to 15 weeks from the original 18-month schedule and extending the building’s warranty to a total of 45 additional months.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón announced that construction could begin in October, once the legal appeal period ends. The redesign will overhaul the building’s commercial layout, accessibility and aesthetics while also improving surrounding streets. The lower floor will continue hosting fresh, high-quality local produce vendors, while a new gastro-market and dining area will expand the offer with 25 food and restaurant stalls.

Upper floors will remain open-plan as multipurpose spaces for future municipal use, complementing other city facilities such as the Ice Factory and the Las Monjas building. Officials hope the renewed La Plasa will become a key driver of urban renewal and local commerce.
