14,488 students start the 2025–2026 school year in Torrevieja

City announces new school programs, major renovations, and key non-school days for the academic year

Torrevieja’s councillor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, has announced that the 2025–2026 school year will begin on Monday, September 8, with 14,488 students enrolled across Infant and Primary, Secondary (ESO), Baccalaureate, vocational training (FP), and other programs.

This year’s figures include 2,231 children in Infant Education, 5,738 in Primary, 4,113 in Secondary, and 2,406 in Baccalaureate and FP. Between July and August alone, 457 new Primary pupils and 248 new Secondary pupils joined local schools. Around 1,500 teachers will start the year.

Local non-school days will be October 10, 2025, February 16, 2026, and March 20, 2026.

Recuero also detailed major investments: the IES Las Lagunas will undergo a full €9 million renovation funded by the Valencian Education Department; the CEIP Virgen del Carmen will be rehabilitated; and the new CEIP No.16 is set to open in January 2026 with prefabricated classrooms.

Ongoing and new initiatives include programs to prevent truancy and bullying, the Local Police School Patrol, the “El Cole en el Mar” water sports project, and “El Tiempo en el Cole,” bringing meteorology and astronomy lessons to students. Sustainability projects continue under the AGAMED agreement, while Torrevieja’s “City of Children” program will run again. The city will also host the “Reinventing Education” conference on March 7, 2026, and launch a new Municipal Family School to support parents with talks and workshops.

Información reports that the city aims to combine educational innovation with improved infrastructure and family engagement for the coming academic year.
