Brazilian students and teachers visit Torrevieja

Public events highlight cultural ties between Brazil and Spain through lectures, workshops, and local excursions

A group of 14 students and two teachers from Colégio Santo Antônio in Belo Horizonte, Brazil — known for having the highest university entrance scores in the country — are visiting Torrevieja until July 25 as part of an intercultural Brazil–Spain program.

The initiative is organized by the University of Alicante’s Torrevieja campus, in collaboration with Torrevieja’s Tourism Department and the Habaneras Municipal Board. Most events are open to the public and take place at the Centro Cultural Virgen del Carmen.

The program began with a guided tour of the Salinas de Torrevieja. Upcoming open events include talks on the linguistic challenges between Spanish and Portuguese, a mobile photography workshop, discussions on cultural identity in Brazil, and a flamenco session highlighting Spanish heritage. Speakers include Brazilian and Spanish educators such as Juan Francisco Álvarez Barranco, Fran Montesinos, and Marta Miguel Gallardo.

On July 23, the group will visit the University of Alicante campus and meet Vice Rector Rosa María Martínez Espinosa. That evening, they’ll attend the 71st Habaneras and Polyphony International Contest.

Participation in the events requires prior registration via an online form. The exchange also includes visits to nearby cities like Alicante and Cartagena.
