À Punt to Broadcast Closing Gala

Valencian public broadcaster signs deal to promote world’s oldest habaneras choral contest

Torrevieja will once again host the prestigious International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest, now in its 71st edition. Valencian public broadcaster À Punt has signed an agreement with the city’s Patronato Municipal de Habaneras and will air the closing gala on a delayed basis on Sunday, 27 July at 11 p.m.

The deal was signed by Torrevieja’s mayor Eduardo Dolón and À Punt’s president Vicente Ordaz. Dolón highlighted that the festival is the city’s most important cultural hallmark and a key part of promoting Torrevieja’s identity. Ordaz emphasised that the habaneras genre and this polyphonic competition are an international reference point, and À Punt wants to share it widely across the region.

Recognised as an event of International Tourist Interest since 1994, the contest runs from 20 to 26 July. This year, 700 choristers in 17 groups from Europe, America and Asia will perform, underscoring the festival’s global reach.
