Municipality allocates over €6.4 million to restore historic site and create new tourism hub
Torrevieja City Council has awarded the rehabilitation works for the Ice Factory building, its annex, and the surrounding area of Eras de la Sal and the Sea and Salt Museum to UTE Orthem-Abala Torrevieja for €6,458,852.99 (VAT included). The project will take 18 months to complete.
The plan includes preserving original structural elements while converting the site into modern cultural and tourism spaces. The historic Ice Factory will house a new Tourist Office and reception for the Sea and Salt Museum, while the annex will accommodate the Tourism Department, Innovation Centre, and other municipal offices such as OARI and PANGEA.
The Generalitat Valenciana will contribute €2 million in funding for the project, with €100,000 allocated in 2025 and the remainder planned through 2027.
