Torrevieja approves lighting maintenance tender

Torrevieja to invest €4.36 million in public lighting maintenance over five years

On June 20, 2025, the Local Government Board of Torrevieja approved the terms and launched the tender process for the maintenance contract of the municipality’s public lighting. The contract covers the management and upkeep of both street lighting and decorative outdoor lighting at municipal buildings.

Councillor for Public Lighting, Concha Sala, stated that the contract includes preventive maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment, as well as remote management of all lighting control panels. This aims to automate switching based on sunrise and sunset. A new feature of the contract is a performance quality criterion focused on energy efficiency and savings.

The base annual value of the contract is €872,147 (VAT included), with a duration of four years plus a possible one-year extension. The total investment over five years will be €4,360,739.

Bids may be submitted within 30 calendar days from the date of publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Full documentation is publicly accessible on the Torrevieja City Council’s procurement portal. In parallel, the municipality is implementing broader energy management policies, including the replacement of 1,000 public light points, reducing installed power from 250 kW to 73 kW.
